Painting Ollie
I finally have published Painting Ollie. A big thank you to choice publishing for their professionalism and help in making this happen.
Painting Ollie is a fun book for 3-5 year olds. It features 2 main characters, Molly and her cat Ollie. These 2 are inseperable and Ollie goes along with Molly until…
"Painting Ollie"
After 2 years working on my picture storybook I am finally there. I reworked Molly several times whereas Ollie was always Ollie. He was a pleasure to work with…Molly was more difficult.

Created Out of Mind
Created Out of Mind Update createdoutofmind.org
All the latest news, events and activities from the Created Out of Mind team.
We have had a very busy month at Created Out of Mind!
We were honoured to have been selected as finalists for the esteemed Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) Arts and Health Award. We were one of 3 finalists in this particular category, and only 21 nominees overall, out of over 700 applicants.
Members of our team joined other finalists at a prestigious awards ceremony at the East Wintergarden in London, hosted by RSPH President Professor Lord Patel of Bradford OBE and broadcaster Natasha Kaplinsky, to celebrate achievement and best practice in public health.
We feel very privileged that the hard work and passion of our team has been recognised by the RSPH, and would like to say a particular thank you to them, to all of our collaborators and, most importantly, to the people experiencing dementias who inspire and work with us to enrich narratives & challenge perceptions.
On 23rd September we held our short film festival, exploring unique and diverse stories of dementias in the stunning Phoenix Cinema in North London. We had a fantastic turnout and selection of films - from evocative dramas and documentaries to award-winning animation - including 2 UK premieres. The films inevitably stimulated some thought-provoking debates and discussions, and we hope to keep this conversation going. Watch this space!
A huge thank you to our panel, which included people with lived experiences, clinicians and researchers, filmmakers and diversity champions. Find out more about some of the acclaimed films here (some are freely available to view online).
We also joined the UCL 'Activism!' Hub at Bloomsbury Festival in London last weekend - sharing dementia stories through interactive installations, animation and film.
The latest run of ''Many faces of dementia' - a free online course from our UCL collaborators - began this week. You can still sign up to explore the rarer dementias through stories, symptoms and science. Also, look out for the next run of Created Out of Mind's dementia and the arts course, which starts again on 19th November.
Finally our collaborators have published two exciting new articles exploring novel approaches to dementia and the arts. Scroll down for more details and links.
As always, please feel free to get in touch with any feedback, questions or ideas.

Open Call | NAVS’ Art for Animals 2018, USA
Artists who love painting animals will find this interesting.
Deadline for submissions: Friday 27 July
NAVS’ Art for Animals contest provides an opportunity for artists of all skills and ages to create images that inspire others to extend compassion, respect and justice to all animals.
For the 2018 competition, National Anti-Vivisection Society (NAVS) is looking for fresh perspectives to illustrate their mission of ending the exploitation of animals used in science, as well as messages of hope and compassion throughout the year. Art for Animals provides an opportunity to get creative and give a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves. Your artwork could appear in print and online messages from NAVS for Labor Day, the Fourth of July, World Week for Animals in Laboratories, or on greeting cards and in social media throughout the holiday season.
Cash prizes will be given to First, Second and Third Place winners, one Youth, and one Best in Show winner.
Submissions may be digitally-created artwork, as well as digital images of original paintings, illustrations or photographs.
Artwork files may only be submitted via email, CD/DVD-ROM or portable flash drive. No physical artwork will be accepted.
From Scottsdale to Santarém, from Rockville to Rio De Janeiro, NAVS’ last Art for Animals competition was a truly international affair, with 163 entries from 18 countries around the world.

Umjetnicka galerija Dubrovnik Museum of Modern Art Dubrovnik
I came across this gallery in Dubrovnik. Three artists Ivo Dulcic, Antun Masle and Duro Pulitika were exhibiting there. I particularly loved Ivo Dulcic's work.

Art as Therapy
I found this article in the Irish Times re a new book Art as Therapy by Alain de Botton and John Armstrongby very interesting. Working as an art facilitator it is the therapeutic qualities of the art process that I focus on. It is important to recognise also the power of engaging with a painting.
Art as Therapy by Alain de Botton and John Armstrong is published by Phaidon Press (£24.95). Available from phaidon.com/store and good bookshops The free Art as Therapy app is available at artastherapy.com

Louvre Abu Dhabi
I was fortunate to be able to visit the new Louvre in Abu Dhabi in February. It did not disappoint in what I had read about it previously.
